Do I Stick Spoons in Champagne Bottles?
By Elizabeth Jamieson
It seems many people think that the notion an opened bottle of champagne or sparkling wine can be kept ultra fizzy by placing a metal spoon in the neck of the bottle, is absolute rubbish. Well, I'm a pretty practical person and I've been placing metal spoons in half full bottles of fizz for years, (almost every evening). I do it because it works. And you can preserve the bubbles in bubbly, in the fridge for a couple of days using this method; not just overnight. If you do nothing - just leave the bottle open, it will be flat and lifeless in a few hours. You can read about people arguing this all over the internet. My advice is, if you haven't tried it just do it.

Several years ago I went out and bought a big new shiny one, especially for the job
Just wondering what kind of metal, Elizabeth?
I just had to come back here. I thought of you when I saw another tip for preserving wine in an open bottle. They said to freeze the leftover wine in the bottle. I haven't tried it, but the testers said that it beat out many other ways.
