Can I Write My Own Web Site?
Got A Great Idea for a Website? People with great ideas for making money online ask themselves this question . . . Should I employ a web designer? Is there a technical friend I can lean on to do it for me for free? Can I possibly write the web site I need, all by myself? There are typically four answers to the question. Either a) Use a package solution that makes it easy for you to point and click your way to a web site, b) Ask a friend or relative to write it for free c) Hire a professional web designer d) Write it yourself by learning how to use XHTML and other web programming techniques All Four Solutions Have Advantages and Disadvantages Package Solution Once you have built a website using a package or solution designed to make the task easy, IF your web site takes off, you might find you hit barriers where the package doesn't let you do exactly as you would like. But nevertheless, this can be a good way to start. Just be aware of the impending limitations. Free Skills of a Friend or Relative Don't do this - it just isn't fair. And what's more the chances of it doing you any good are slim to zero. Why? Because building, maintaining and marketing a website that is not just going to end up as a pointless excercise in going nowhere, takes thousands of hours of commitment. As you cannot ask anyone to work for you for thousands of hours for free, you are actually being unreasonable and really saying you don't value their time. Hire a Web Designer This can be tough - if you get it right that is great, but there are lots of new inexperienced web designers out there just waiting to use you and your money as practice so they can start to build a portfolio. It's nice to help someone get started, but maybe not until your business is doing well and you can afford to back someone new. Build It Yourself This is the ultimate solution as you'll be in control of what your site does in the short term (no waiting on anyone to make changes, or add new pages and new ideas to the site), but if your business grows, you might become too busy to maintain and enhance it yourself. It depends on the nature of your business. Should this happen, you'll either outsource to a web designer or hire someone into to maintain the site. Either way, because you have taken the time and trouble to learn enough to get started yourself, you'll be in the best position to judge who you can work with. You will know who is knowledgeable and who isn't Please read the full article that goes into practically every aspect of web design, in the link provided.
